The History Reader
In her newest novel The Nightingale, Historical Fiction novelist and New York Times bestselling author Kristin Hannah offers a look at the heroism and personal sacrifice that women make during wartime.
The novel, with World War II as its back drop, details the lives of two sisters, Vianne— struggling to survive after her husband’s departure to the front lines— and Isabelle who bravely joins the Resistance efforts. Separated by circumstance, each struggles to find a way to survival in Nazi occupied France. In the video Hannah discusses her months of dutiful research into the heroic acts of Vianne and Isabelle, whose resilience inspired her to expose the untold story of women during this incredible period.
